Etiology and Sintomatology of Ear Pain

Google Adds
The eustachian tube runs from the middle of each ear to the back of the throat. This tube drains fluid that normally occurs in the middle ear. If the eustachian tube becomes blocked, fluid can build up. This can lead to pressure behind the eardrum or an ear infection.

In adults, it is less likely that the earache is due to infection. What you perceive as ear pain may actually come from elsewhere, such as temporomandibular joint, teeth, throat or elsewhere. This is called "referred" pain.

The causes of ear pain may include:

  • Obstruction of the external ear (for foreign objects or wax in the ear).
  • External ear infection or internal.
  • Acute or chronic otitis media.
  • Barotrauma acute by the rapid change in altitude.
  • Broken or perforated eardrum.
  • Dental infection.
  • Infection of the sinuses.
  • Arthritis of the jaw.
  • Sore throat with pain radiating to the ears.
  • TMJ Syndrome.
  • Some types of cancer.

Associated symptoms include:

  • Pain or discomfort around the ear.
  • The child complains of ear pain, crying or irritable.
  • Loss of hearing.
  • Fever.
  • Feeling of pressure in the ear.
  • It can cause a ruptured eardrum, which is manifested by sudden pain and discharge of pus.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
